DIABETES RISK FACTORS YOU CAN CHANGE

Prediabetes or type 2 diabetes quite often do not show any symptoms. Thus, you would not know that you may have this condition. Therefore, it is essential to know the risk factors. There are two kinds of risk factors—Modifiable and Non-modifiable.1,2

Modifiable risk factors are the factors that can be altered by adopting healthy changes. This can help diminish or delay the development of diabetes.1

Overweight/

  • If you lose 5 to 7% of your body weight, the risk reduces by half

Physical

  • Physical inactivity is the top most modifiable risk factor for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes

High blood pressure

  • Untreated high blood pressure is linked with increased risk of diabetes

Abnormal
cholesterol (lipid) levels

  • Low high-density lipoprotein (good cholesterol) and/or increased triglycerides level can increase the risk for type 2 diabetes
