How gestational diabetes affects you and your baby?

Transcript :

Speaker: Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes that begins during pregnancy. Quite many women develop diabetes during pregnancy. Developing diabetes during pregnancy can affect your pregnancy and your baby's health. Any pregnancy complication can make you worried, but there is good news. Getting good treatment makes all the difference, and most women with gestational diabetes have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies.

Let's know the gestational diabetes effects on baby. Your baby may grow larger than a normal baby. If your baby is very large, you may face difficulties during delivery or you may need a cesarean section. Early birth and respiratory distress are the other problems associated with gestational diabetes symptoms. Mother with increased sugar level may deliver her child earlier than the due date. This increases the risk of respiratory distress, a condition in which breathing is difficult in the baby. Other problem your baby can face is low blood sugar, i.e. hypoglycemia, and increased risk of Type 2 diabetes later in life.

Let's also understand the effects of diabetes on pregnancy and the impact of gestational diabetes on the mother. Gestational diabetes can increase your risk of developing high blood pressure during pregnancy and also raises your risk of developing diabetes in future.

There are no assurances when it comes to preventing gestational diabetes, but adopting healthy habits before pregnancy is better.
