Syringes and pen needles are used for several shots
Modern syringes and pen needles are intended for single use only
Correct versus wrong practice
Inject needle through clothing.
It is perfectly harmless
Currently marketed needles are very fine and if you inject the needle through cloth it dulls the needles even more fast. Hence, don’t inject needles through clothes.
Consequences of using dull needle
Increase risk of small, tearing injuries to the tissue
Increase risk of scarring
Small needle fragments may break off and be left behind in skin
May experience bruising at the injection site
Correct versus wrong practice
Many pen users leave the needle on the pen between shots
Remove the needle from the pen after the shot.
Consequences of leaving needle on the pen
Some insulin may dry and crystallize in the needle
It may fully or partly block the needle affecting delivery accuracy
May introduce air into the pen reservoir
An uncapped needle may cause all the insulin to leak out of the reservoir
